Sound not working on iMac 2017 21.5 inch
I have removed OSX completely and installed Gentoo and KDE. However, the speaker, headphone port, and mic don't work.
Here are some useful outputs:

its been a couple of days so until you get a better reply me thinks you have a codec issue. See that last box in post1?
look at your post and you will see your product id is 9d71
and a poster claimed they needed firmware....they also got a different codec to you after that install
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=265211
follow advice from post 3 and 4 and then you should firmware and after a reboot a new modprobe config that when you run
should give you codec=ALC285

I installed sof-firmware and alsa-ucm-conf and added the modprobe file.
It appears that nothing has changed.

hmm well I do not have your hardware so this may take a little longer.
1) AFAIK you do not have a correct intel related codec, their names can be seen here
https://mjmwired.net/kernel/Document...dio-Models.txt
2) so do you have a kernel module called ?
snd-intel-dspcfg
for me....
3) is it after reboot....loaded?
and altho link does not say so.....maybe we have to blacklist the snd_hda_intel module?
Your output will be useful here
edit
leaping ahead....lets pretend it is loading and therefore interfering we use root powers to create a file,
it can be called anything.conf, I will call it /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
full reboot to test please.
if your lsmod command showed hypens instead of understems....then adjust the blacklist.conf file
4) EDIT....DO NOT do this step until snd-hda-intel module is effectively blacklisted please.
is the firmware correctly loading.....assuming it is correct from link?
but it might be better to post your full dmesg say
Code:
dmesg > /tmp/dmesg.txt
then upload the file to (or your dropbox site or your preferred paste site)
https://paste.debian.net/
can you give it 3d expiry and keep your original copy pls.
5) Back to your original sound kernel module and its product id ....it is in that modules as seen by
Code:
modinfo snd-hda-intel | grep 9D71
alias: pci:v00008086d00009D71sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
6) it is also possible you have made a typo in the modprobe config......but the link OP does not say exactly if he/she varied any of the steps.....I am assuming not.

Hi, so:
2) I have a module called "snd-intel-dspcfg"
Code:
$ modinfo snd-intel-dspcfg
filename: /lib/modules/5.16.10-gentoo-x86_64/kernel/sound/hda/snd-intel-dspcfg.ko
import_ns: SND_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_ACPI
description: Intel DSP config driver
license: GPL v2
srcversion: ABD13A458CC19ED34298A5A
depends: snd-intel-sdw-acpi
retpoline: Y
intree: Y
name: snd_intel_dspcfg
vermagic: 5.16.10-gentoo-x86_64 SMP preempt mod_unload modversions
sig_id: PKCS#7
signer:
sig_key:
sig_hashalgo: unknown
signature:
parm: dsp_driver:Force the DSP driver for Intel DSP (0=auto, 1=legacy, 2=SST, 3=SOF) (int)
3) Yes, it was loaded. I can't confirm it now since I have the blacklist on but it was loaded (I checked).
Also I added the blacklist, and, as expected:
Code:
aplay: device_list:274: no soundcards found...
4) Output here:
https://pastebin.com/CXnsRvjF
5) Yes, it shows that:
Code:
$ modinfo snd-hda-intel | grep 9D71
alias: pci:v00008086d00009D71sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
6) I checked, and no typo.

a kernel is booting but you should have a pathway of
/boot/vmlinuz* or /boot/grub/vmlinuz* or /grub/vmlinuz*
can you post your kernel pathway as root please?
Code:
find / -name vmlinuz*
this should catch sym links as well as the real kernel.
2) sorry I need to see the full contents of your blacklist file

The kernel is in /boot
Code:
$ doas find / -name vmlinuz*
find: '/proc/3299/task/3299/net': Invalid argument
find: '/proc/3299/net': Invalid argument
/boot/vmlinuz-5.16.10-gentoo-x86_64
find: '/run/user/1000/doc': Permission denied
And my blacklist file:
Code:
$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
blacklist snd_hda_intel

Hi
your modinfo command used hypens and your blacklist has used understems....please edit to hyphens and full reboot to see if it blacklists differently thanks

hmmm your last dmesg has no sof firmware mentioned AFAIK.
do you still have a config in /etc/modprobe.d dir for ?
options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1
2) ok so no snd* modules appear to load at all.
try using root powers to manually load that module like this
Code:
modprobe snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1
lsmod | grep snd
then test sound...if sound works we can create a config to autoload that module

I still have inteldsp.conf:

And the soundcard is not recognised when snd-hda-intel is not loaded:
