Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

sound not working in multiple programs

ok ive searched for at least 30-45mins and I either searched incorrectly or this just hasnt been brought up so if it has i apologise..

Ok i firstly noticed this a while back however didnt think much of it as i didnt configure my sound card correctly, but its come back up. As much as i hate to say this Windows has this working fine. But when i play music at the moment im using XMMS and when i just want to play a movie (using Mplayer not sure if thats the correct name but its used from the command prompt). MPlayer gives me sorry "sound card seems to be used by another program" now in windows i can play a movie and listen to music sure i probably wont understand the song or the movie but it works.

Is there anyway that i can configure the sound card or programs to work together and allow both applications to use the sound card at the same time.

Thanks in advance

Usually having a sound daemon with support for multiple channels/sources will do the trick. What are you using for sound?

Seems you have the same problem as I have:

No solution yet, let's see who gets there first!
