I am getting frustrated trying to get an on board soundmax card to work. I have done all the installations as advised on the alsa pages. I am getting the following error

alsaconf cannot detect the sound card

Is it a fresh installation or have you re-compiled the kernel ???

post the o/p of the "sound section" of you config file.

is the module for you sound card ???

Do you have this module somewhere in /lib/modules/<My Kernel>/kernel/sound/ ???

post the output of
#lspci

and
#lsmod
