Unhappy Sound in slow motion

Hello this is my first post so if I leave out useful info let me know please..
I am running Debian Etch Kernel=2.6.18-3 on a Thinkpad 600.
I got sound to work after much frustration by loading the following modules:
ad1848
uart401
cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=9

On the first try I got perfect sound with xmms, ect. So I added those options to my /etc/modules file.
On restart I still had sound but when I tried to play an mp3 it sounded like the song was in slow motion but I think its just a really low pitch. Now everything is like that..and I tried starting over but it was still the same...
Please help me I got so excited when I first heard sound and now Im just frustrated all over again..
Any insight would be appreciated
Thx
