Question Sound does not work in certain programs...

My sound card is found to be "Tabor 2" or something of that nature. I am capable of using the sound card to hear noises coming from gaim , sountracker , xmms. The sound works fine. But sometimes (I have not isolated why) I receive an error saying that dev/dsp is in use or is blocked. Or that my sound is not enabled when it clearly is. I am not sure what my problem is, but I am sure that it is inconvenient. If someone could educate me on this subject or help me with suggestions I would be more than pleased.
