Sound chopping when switching windows

While working in my SUSE Linux 9.3 and listening to the music at the same time, I noticed that sound chops once sometimes when I switch windows. Later I also noticed that this happens when I minimize/maximize windows, open new windows or switch tabs in Firefox or Konqueror. My soundcard is Avance AC97 integrated board (although Windows installs SoundMAX drivers for it and it doesn't work when I install the original Avance drivers). The chipset is Intel. Here's the lspci -vv output for my soundcard:

0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 12)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.: Unknown device 806a
Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR-
Latency: 0
Interrupt: pin B routed to IRQ 5
Region 0: I/O ports at a800 [size=256]
Region 1: I/O ports at a400 [size=64]

SUSE automatically installed drivers for this card during the installation.

My guess is you have an issue with alsa stompin on maybe one of the other two dozen sound systems running in Linux. What are you playing? Xmms? AmaroK? KCD? Real Player? Netscape/Firefox?

I'm playing mp3 in RealPlayer, and working in Firefox. Sorry, but I don't understand what alsa stompin is. Can I fix this problem?
