My old sound card just broke and I am planning of buying a new one, a 5.1. I was wondering what sound card would you recommend for debian squeeze not more than 40 euros.
I was thinking of this HERCULES MUSE 5.1 that is about 35 euros is that complatible with debian/linux? I want that one because creative is to expensive and this one is 5.1 for videogames, DVD and avalaible to put 6 speakers.
Check out the driver situation, the outputs, and the success in oversampling. Many cards can work at up to 192khz. /usr/src/linux*/Documentation/sound/alsa for your card. I landed a creative es1371 back in the day, read the kernel docs and _seriously_ regretted my choice.
First of all thanks for replying me, I tried to get where you mention but, I dont have the "Documentation" folder that you mention, I have the following:
PC-Arriba:/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.30-2-686# ls
arch include Makefile Module.symvers scripts
PC-Arriba:/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.30-2-686#
Where do I have to go or what I have to install? To read the kernel docs. Also I don't want to buy a creative sound card because a lot of people told me that it goes really bad with linux. I don't know about this Hercules sound card, I tried to search on google about it but I don't find a decent opinion about it.
Installing the kernel source is one way to read the docs. You can usually get info online. Have you checked /usr/share(/doc)/alsa/cards? Have you looked at the 1st page of <your card> support alsa from google?
First, be sure that we have a sound card installed on our system and have speakers or headphones connected to it. The sound card is usually a card in the back of machine, although some newer machines have them installed on the motherboard. so please help me in the about, thanks
