Sound card recommendations for Compaq Presario
 

Bought a Compaq Presario 2.7 GHz Intel box recently and cannot get the Intel sound card to work even with the ALSA drivers. The Compaq site doesn't list compatible cards for Red hat Linux Enterprise.

Are there any I can but from say Best Buy that will work out of the box?

Everything else works on this box. Just not sound. I don't want to spend a lot of time screwing with it. Just want to buy a card that will work.

have a look at the cards listed there, the ones w/a ton of reviews saying things like "works flawlessly" would be your best bets.

<edit>just for grins, if you'd post the presario model #, or the output of /sbin/lspci -v, i'd be willing to do some "legwork" to get you going. (i just love a challenge) :D </edit>

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It works flawless. It has much, much better sound quality than Creative Labs Soundblaster LIVE and Audigy.
