Sound Card question SUSE 9.1 (on startup)

Linux n00b here.

Running SUSE 9.1.

The sound card works fine EXCEPT for this little nooglie:

When I first boot Linux, the sound card is silent until I go into the hardware manager and select the sound card to configure it. I don't even have to configure it, just go into the list and click finish (without configuring). Then it works fine, even through session-changes. It just does it when the system boots.

Any reasons for this? Permanenet solutions? It'd be nice if the system remembered the card/settings and I didn't have to fool with it each time.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

I am having the same problem in FC2. No sound at all until I run the soundcard detection test which merely plays the sample sound. Everything works from then on.

Here is my thread. Nothing has been solved but I am hoping for a solution soon.

Do you use ALSA? If so, you need to run alsactl store on shutdown and alsactl restore on boot to keep volume settings.

It could also be because the drivers aren't being loaded until the detection. Could you post the output of lsmod before and after running the soundcard detection utility?

The command line doesn't recognize either lsmod or alsactl store when I am logged in as root.

Wierd. Try a /sbin/lsmod instead. If still nothing then post the outout of find / -iname lsmod as root. It may take a while to finish running but be patient.

With the alsactl thing... Firstly, do you run ALSA? Secondly, if you do, did you install the alsa-libs and alsa-utils?
