Sound card in SuSE 9.2 -- kaput?
 

More SuSE 9.2 troubles alas! I've set up (hopefully) my soundcard using Yast - at least
it seemed that it was OK, as I got system sound effects, such as the sound of
breaking glass when I log out. However, when I try to play an audio CD (which
worked fine in 8.2), I get no sound at all.

Looking at /var/log/messages, I find

Try playing the CD in your Audio Player or at a friends place. Check if it working there.
If not, find out data cd's working fine..
Also check your main volume settings in the volume control in the menu. Check your pcm2 (if applicable) and the cd volume levels

The CD works fine on my stereo, but not on my Linux audio players. I've adjusted the volume on the CD players (even though it was at 40%), but I still get nothing!

Are you using the default CD player which loads when you insert a CD ?

If so stop playback, click Extras, Configure KsCD, Cd Player, put an "x" in Use direct digital playback, click apply should be good to go

Just done that - no change, no sound :(

check wiring?
 

Do you have your audiouwire from the CD player plugged into the right spot on the sound card? - Also try using the on-board audio to see if its a sound card problem.

I presume that the wiring is OK. I got the computer second hand, and the people from whom I bought it used their audio CD's (on WinXP) with no problem.

How do I specify using the on-board audio btw?
