Sound Blaster Live Player 5.1 Digital

Hello Folks

I'm very new to linux so any help is appreciated .

I have just installed Fedora Yarrow of which I find excellent . I have managed to get all the devices on my computer up and running but not my sound card .

My sound card is a sound Blaster live player 5.1 digital .

Fedora has detected it , but no sound is going out from .

I'm thinking that I may need to tell linux that I need to channel the sound of the digital channel rather than the analog channel , I don't know I could be wrong , if not how do you do it

Does anybody else have a sound blaster Live player 5.1 digital on there system

Yes, I do. but I don't/won't use that alsa garbage........I use the emu10k1 driver found @ sourceforge and
you will need to install emu-tools.
emu-tools installs a script to enable digital output and to pipe the signal to a subwoofer also.

read all documentation that come with these.............

and in /etc/modules.conf you will need to add:

Code:

alias sound emu10k1

try typing alsamixer in console and unmute the sound...sound is muted by default with the alsa drivers....typing alsaconf will allso config your sound card and load the module in your kernel

Why do you have the opinion that alsa is garbage?

No need to bother with another driver when ALSA's one is working (for me, of course).

Some settings are not reacheable via alsamixer (SB Live! series digital out for example).
To enable SB Live! digital output u'll simply have to change the right flag in /etc/asound.state (in my configuration the emu10k1 setting for SB Live digital output was the last setting in the config file-but may be not in ure config-).

If you don't know how to get a valid /etc/asound.state file simply read alsactl man pages.

PS:
from the description:
"alsactl is used to control advanced settings for the ALSA soundcard
drivers. It supports multiple soundcards. If your card has features
that you canít seem to control from a mixer application, you have come
to the right place."

the alsa garbage referred to uses the emu10k1 driver for sb live and works very well for me...alsa is the writer of the emu10k1 driver:rolleyes:
