Question Sound Blaster Help

I'm using a Creative SB Live! Emu101K sound card with drivers that came with SuSE 9.0 Pro, and after choosing those drivers from the list, I now have sound but I get a horrible hiss, like what you would here on a tape. Can anyone please help me with this problem?

I am having teh very same problem with a "Sound Blaster 16" (cheap one) under Mandrake 9.1
I have yet not been able to solve this issue and I tried to equalyze it so the hiss would not be heard but I was not able to even find a program capable of doing such a thing.
I also tried changin the cables I am using (considering that it cuold also be some hardware issue) but well the cables weren't the problem.
I would also like to solve this since audio quality...well it just is not good.
Thanks

what is your sound settings? do you hear it all levels of play? you might be over driving your speakers, try turning back you output of comp to 75% on your volume control.

I did and it is not the problem, at low output volumen and post-amplified the hiss is still there. I have a physical mixer for DJing and I am able to amplify the sound after it goes out the computer....

well i have been wondering around my Konsole and found out that perhaps it is an issue with ALSA or artswrapped
when I ran artsd -b 16 for setting the sound to 16 bits quality it showed me:

can't Register Arts::MidiManager
ERROR: can't add object reference (probably artsd is already running)
