ok, well your kernel source should be in /usr/src/linux
if its not you can download the source in rpm format from redhat... type at a command prompt 'uname -r'... this should tell you what kernel version you have then download the redhat rpm... something like linux-2.4.20-23rhn_src.rpm... be careful... you'll find two types of rpms... one that has the kernel (and will overwrite the currently installed one) and another has the source code in it... look for the letters 'src' in the rpm filename to make sure you're getting the right one. Also make sure that the version numbers line up exactly. as for the module, go to alsa's page http://www.alsa-project.org check out the list of supported sound cards and follow the instructions for you via 8233 card. let me know if you run into any problems. |
ta - alsa page is don m8

kernel-2.4.18-27.8.0.src.rpm (35,350,340 bytes)Download SRPM which 1? |
kernel-2.4.18-27.8.0.src.rpm is yer man
and the alsa project... if you have to try it now; without waiting for the site to come back up, find a mirror, download the driver, library, and utilities tarballs. |
Ive only managed to get this file:
alsa-driver-0.9.2.tar.bz2 will that do the job?? |
|
can you lot give me a detail guide on what to do?
Im a nub tbh |
and what do the other files do?
|
the driver archive that you downloaded is the actual alsa drivers... then the others: library, util, tools are just that... one is a set of libraries for software to use ... probably best to have these libraries, the util allows you to modify configuration of your sound card (supposedly) and then the tools... well I'm not sure whats in the tools because I haven't used them yet.
first download and extract the drivers... read the README and INSTALL documentation that comes with the download. then do the same for the libraries... installing the util and tools package I leave up to you. |
ok ta, ive followed all the instruction login in as root.
all went fine still no sound so i need the other things now? |
urm is the alsa webpage down??
|
