sound

Anybody have any idea why one day my sound wouldn't work? I've been using this Slackware computer for months. Today I turned it on. No sound. I tried plugging in other speakers. No sound. I tried opening alsamixer and unmuting everything and turnning everything all the way up. No sound.

I rebooted. Now it works again. Weird.

hi

if its one day I would not be personally in agony....but next time it happens please save your /var/log/messages and post a link to them or post them inside a code box as they are too large pls

leaping ahead...maybe something that was supposed to load..failed on one boot and so you missed out on the correct sequence?

I think you may also want to look at what services were running ...normally and compare them to when no sound....
one culprit to look for is /etc/init.d/alsa-utils...which is the app that sets your volumes..well reads them and uses them

2) can you also specify do you have any sound events enabled on start up...do you turn off your computer or hibernate etc?

what DE/WM are you using....if you are starting to use kde4....or kde3 my wiki link might give you some clues?

good luck

It's happened once again. Rebooting fixed it. I have no idea why it happens.

oh damn

ok post that part of /var/log/messages where you have no sound....to http://paste.debian.net/
then do it to a new paste for when you have sound...and post the links please.

I can then run xxdiff on them and see if I can see anything of value...Please name which link is the bad and the good.

ps I have removed my wiki link previously mentioned for political reasons nothing to do with you.
regards

Well it only happens once every 6 months so I guess I'll have to wait.
