video driver incompatibility?
i have a sony vaio pcvr545ds (an 8 year old desktop) and i am currently trying to install fedora core 3 on it.
mr vaio has an intel 810 chipset (direct agp). fedora installed alright - i have a few problems, but there is only one that is making it unusable at this point. any 'window' that i try to open with either kde or gnome is absolutely 'transparent'. i can see the outline of the window; and if my cursor drags over a 'button', it will make that button visible - but other than that, all i see is desktop. if anyone has any suggestions - i could definately use them; thank you. |
Sony Vaio
I have a Sony Vaio FB530. Mandriva, from 10.2 installs with few, if any problems.

I have a running SuSE 10 on my Vaio FS115M - Works out of the box. (Except the WLAN thing, this needed a firmware update...)

Sony Vaio FZ180E/B
I just bought the Sony Vaio FZ180E/B, installed OpenSuse, it did not work! Move to Mandriva, and it did better. The problem with this lap is the video card, Nvidia is not supporting the GeForce Go 8400 due to the fact that this video card has so many features.
