Sony laptop internal memory stick reader setup in Suse 10.0

I have a sony pcg-frv35, and I've installed SUSE 10.0 on it. I've got almost everything on it working normally, but I don't know where to begin with the internal memory stick reader. I haven't really worried about it so far because I have a usb one that works fine. It would be nice to have all of it working though.

Any thoughts?

If by "Internal memory stick" you mean an SD or and SDIO card, then you may have a problem under linux, since the SD stack is not opensource and hence there are no free implementations under the kernel.

There are proprietory stacks available for a fee, from quite a few vendors.

USB based storage media don't have that problem since USB specifications are freely downloadable. You can't even download the SD specifications ( or PCMCIA or CardBus ) freely. They are paid subscriptions ( like IEEE documents ).

Actually, IIRC the internal memory stick reader is basically treated by the kernel as an external USB card reader would. I had a sony vaio that I put linux on a while ago (it has since broken) and it worked perfectly out of the box. I'm not sure why yours isn't working if you can get a usb card reader to work though...

You might want to try posting the output of the dmesg command (go into a terminal and type dmesg) That'll tell us if the computer is picking up the reader or not.
