Sony DCR TRV140, USB interface

Hi,
The camcorder we have, Sony DCR TRV140, came with a CD ROM which works with Windows. The cable has a USB end on end which can be connected to my computer, the other end can be connected to the camcorder. How can this camcorder be interfaced to my PC to capture video/still pictures? What software/driver is needed and what configurations need to be done to get this working?
My pc runs Redhat Linux 9.0.

Searched this web site but could not find information on doing the software configuration.
