sony camera problems

Hi, i just bought a Sony dcr-trv 460 handycam and I've been trying to get it to work on fedora core 3. So far I've had no luck setting it up with usb and all my searches have turned up fixes for a firewire problem with this camera. Unfortunately i do not have a firewire card on this computer and do not plan on buying one. Does anyone know of a way i can get this camera to work so i can get my movies off of it and also use it as a webcam as i can do in windows?

Thanks in advance,
E.G.

I've been having similar problem with another Sony cam. Fed up of loosing time I bough a memory stick/USB adapter.
So I get the stick out of the cam and plug it in the adapter and I see the icon poping up on my gnome desktop. Then I just have to drag'n'drop the pics/movies to my harddisk.
You can find some for as little as $10-$15, they also read compact flash and other format.
Also some printers and other recent periphericals comes with a memory stick reader included. If you have one of those I wouldn't spend time trying to hook up the cam straight to the USB plug...
