some hardware not working under kernel 2.6.*
Computer Configuration:
Dual Pentium 3, 1.0 Ghz
Motherboard: Iwill DVD266u-RN
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600xt
Network card: Realtek RTL8139 PCI card
Mouse: Logitech wheel mouse, usb
Printer: Samsung ML-1710 laser printer, usb
I am currently in distribution limbo. On my current computer configuration I have used several distributions that run on kernel 2.4.*( Redhat 8.0, 9.0 and Mandrake 9.2). I have recently installed several distributions that run on kernel 2.6* (Ferdora Core 2, Mandrake 10.0, SUSE 9.1). When the computer is booted to run the smp version of kernel 2.6.* no components plugged into the usb ports are detected, including my mouse. Also the network card is not detected. I don’t think the sound card (built into the motherboard) works eather. When I boot the system to run the non smp version of 2.6.* everything works fine. The problem seems to be that the smp version of kernel 2.6.* does not have the correct drivers for my computer. How can I get any of these distributions to work on my computer with the smp version of 2.6.*. I rather not compile the 2.6.* kernel from scratch, as I am under the impression that this would take a large amount of time (especially for someone who has never compiled a kernel).
