Software for Palm Pilot

I have gentoo now and unlike FC3, my palm isn't recognized. The dmesg prints out one line when I hit the hotsync button

usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5

Do I need any additional software in order for my Palm to be recognized? there is not a /dev/ttyUSB* or any new device. /var/log/messages prints nothing different than dmesg.

Any Ideas?

Thx

dmesg:
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
visor 2-1:1.0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected
usb 2-1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB0
usb 2-1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1
usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 9
visor ttyUSB0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
visor ttyUSB1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1

jpilot:
****************************************
Syncing on device /dev/tts/ttyUSB1
Press the HotSync button now
****************************************
pi_bind Illegal seek
Check your serial port and settings
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND
Finished

Any idea what this means? It will not sync with my device, and this is with root. I followed the instructions on the gentoo wiki, but to no avail. I need some help. I can't find ttyUSB1 in /dev.

Thx

What kind of Palm device do you have? Some are different. The Palm T5 connects to two USB ports when you first plug it in, and will not sync without allot of googling and configuring (I have never got it to work reliably and repeatedly).

I have a Zire 21. It worked in Fedora with a little configging and running as root, but even as root i get the illegal seek bind thing.

SOLUTION...I used the gentoo-wiki.com article about the palm and did it that way. Also, don't run the palm through a usb hub...it doesn't like that.
