So close... (Radeon 9500 Pro)

OK, well I've been on a quest to get my Radeon 9500 Pro working in RedHat 9. Of course, the standard ATi Radeon drivers only support XFree86 4.2. I tried using them anyway, and it balked.

I was then pointed to Schneider Digital's FireGL drivers and told that they should work. YAY! Until I find out that the AGP3 support is broken on KT400 boards (like my Soyo Dragon).

A little more research leads me to an AGP3 patch for the ATi/Schneider drivers. I apply the patch and recompile the module, and try again. Black screen.

I reverted back to the standard X drivers and checked the logs; everything started up correctly, no errors. I'm so close, and whatever is not working is probably some stupid thing I would never think of. Does anybody have any ideas?

If you want more information, just ask; I'm kind of flustered at the moment.
