SMP Kernel or Not (P4 2.6C with HT)

I'm running Fedora Core 1 on a Pentium 4 2.6C 800MHz FSB with HyperThreading. It's kernel 2.4.22. Anyway, would I have better performance running the SMP kernel or not? Currently, I'm running the SMP kernel (2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp and the non-SMP is just 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl). When I installed FC1, it made the SMP one default to boot up to. Now here's the thing - it is detected as two seperate processors (winxp does the same thing), so if I run the non-SMP kernel, it's only using one of the logical processors, correct? Sounds to me like the SMP kernel is better (I've tried both and can't tell a difference, but I haven't compiled anything on the non-smp kernel so I can't REALLY tell), but I wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks!

You need SMP kernel to take advantage of HT
