SMP help

Having just bought me an SMP board on Ebay & complete with a PIII 550 chip, I want to buy a second 550 chip to put in it. I have hear that matched CPU's are better - what I want to know is why? Can I still buy a randon chip off ebay & hope it will work, is this course of action wise?

I plan to use the board in a mythtv box - or if it don't have enought juice to run it I might stick it in my server.

Can anyone fill me in on this subject or point me in the right direction of some documentation on matching cpu's?
