SMP box question

Will I need to recompile my kernel or install another one to get SMP support if I install Redhat 8, or will the installation program detect 2 CPUs and install the appropriate kernel for me?

Thanks!

Well I think this does depend on the CPU type, like if it's been known since the release of RH 8.0 already. I had problems installing SMP-support with 7.3 ... but if I remember correctly there is SMP-supportable-CPU in RH 8.0 You might have to do a "select individual packages" and check in the Kernel-area the SMP-kernel!

Ok, thanks. I'm running a dual AMD 1800+ MP system. When I set it up tonight, I will look around for the flag or kernel option.

I just hope that my 9700 Pro works too. I guess I'll try it and see.

Yep, you are right. Everything worked out nicely. Radeon 9700 installed flawlessly and the SMP kernel was installed in addition to the regular one.
