SMART Failure Predicted
Every time I start up or reboot my computer i get this warning :
SMART Failure Predicted on Primary Master : Maxtor 4D080H4 Im guessing thats bad. Should i think about replacing the hard drive, or is there a soft modification i can do for it? I've been getting this for a while now ( 2+ Months). |

If not, just get a new one. |
Haha, 24 hours? Wow, this has been going for well over 2 months, more like a year or so. Thanks, i figured i had to get a
new one, just wanted to clear it with someone. Would this create a loss of overall speed on the internet and on programs? Also, is there anything i should worry about when putting the new harddrive in, or do i just go in there carefully, unplug the old one and plug the new one in the same way? It's not that old of a computer, around 3 years, so i wouldn't think there would be compability issues.. And no, there isn't any warranty left on the hd. |
If you are specially interested what is wrong with the HD, you can use smartctl (eg. smartctl -a /dev/hda) from smartmontools package to get exact results. Bios only says that when the general health test fails.
When setting a new HD, there is probably no any issues. There are some problems overcoming the 137GB barrier (as there were 512MB, 4GB and 8GB barriers). |
