slow startup dvd drive
I recently replaced my Benq dvd writer with a Pioneer DVR-710. Now when the computer boots up, it waits almost 30 sec before booting. It does a memory check, then finds & reports the two hard drives, then reports the DVD drive then freezes for what appears to be a timeout. Then it flashes something about settings updated & boots grub.
Checking settings everything appears to be correct, the drive is reported properly. Ideas why?? Computer is a HP pavilion xt953. |
Check if "fastboot" is enabled in the BIOS, and that 'the Show BIOS info / Show POST screen' is set to POST.
Did that help? Also, verify that the selector switch or jumper is set correctly for Master/Slave/CableSelect on the new device. |
Fastboot is enabled; the drive is set to master, it is the only cd/dvd drive in the computer. The previous Benq drive (also a replacement, the computer did not have a dvd drive originally) was also set to master & did not have this problem. The show info is set to show info.
PS: Nice tag! |
;) Thanks!
Umm, well depending on how many options there are in your BIOS, I recommend going through ALL of it, and re-checking everything to do with the IDE bus. FOr example, if you have the option of 32bit IO, set it to ON. If you have Busmaster and/or DMA , play with those settings.. Sounds strange. If I have any other ideas, I'll letcha know. |
I guess I should have tried the simple things first.
Setting jumpers to cable select cured it. Thanks. |
