Slow printing from CUPS on Debian to Brother Multifunction Device

I have a Brother multifunction device, the MF5860CN. It is running on a Debian system, which is fully up-to-date. It uses the Linux drivers from the Brother site, which I have ensured are up-to-date. It connects over a USB cable

It works fine, except it is SLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW. I can see no reason for the slowness, no errors or warnings, the printer prints fine off other systems like windows, but takes forever under CUPS.

Google has been consulted, but come up with nothing

Any thoughts?

Is USB storage devices fast or slow. If they are slow, it could be the options that are set in the kernel before compile time.

I have a brother HL5140 that prints fast. I am using the PPD file from linuxprinting.org. I have tested the PPD file from Brother, but quality is not as good. It is the same speed.

Try using its Ethernet connection.

Hello jimbo1954,

First of alle please use the latest LPR and cupswrapper drivers. Brother update then a couple of weeks ago.

Next use the network interface of the MFC instead of the USB interface.

This should speed up the printing. I am using this setup on a MFC-5460CN = MFC-5860CN - 1 tray.

Best regards,

Yves
