Slow FPS in glxgears, GeForce FX 5200

I'm getting rather slow speeds in glxgears, around 1200-1300ish and people around here seem to be pushin 2000-3000. I've also noticed I've been having some trouble running StepMania as fast as I usually could (this is a new installation of Slackware 9.1 I'm running, ran much nicer on RH9 and my previous Slack installation). I've tried both the 4496 pkg-2 and the 5336 pkg-1, both of which gave me similar results. First off, here's my XF86Config, is there anything wrong in there? I know I was supposed to comment out glcore and dri or something along those lines, but I didn't see them, so I figured something might be wrong o_O. Another thing, is my USB controller was having problems because of ACPI (which I enabled for a whole 'nother reason), could this also be the culprit? Everything loads up fine (as in my window manager and everything) but games are a bit slower than they ought to, and I want my money's worth :P. Thanks!

This might not amount to anything, but have a look at this section from my file ->
Code:

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200"
    Driver      "nvidia"
    #VideoRam    4096
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection

I noticed you have VideoRam uncommented, but I have it commented out. Here's my output ->
Code:

mingdao@paul:Sat Jan 31 12:46:13~$ glxgears

35146 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7029.200 FPS

I'll look into that. Also, what drivers are you running? 4496?

yes, 4496 pkg2...

I don't know if the VideoRam has anything to do with it, but that's
something I noticed...

You may also want to check your refresh rates for your monitor by
the manufacturer's specs. That might not matter, either, but the
horz looks a little low for a LCD, and the vert looks a little high for
a LCD. What type of monitor do you have?

Just a run of the mill CRT. Came with my Sony computer, 17" Flat Screen.

I tried commenting out the VideoRam line and I noticed no change at all. This is really weird

Go to the Sony site and see if it gives specs for the monitor that is listed
with your computer. And if there's nothing there, maybe you can either
(1) get some information from someone else who uses CRT's - I only have LCD's
(2) if you can't get someone else's specs, go to Samsung and get the specs for
one of their 17" CRT's - they're pretty "run of the mill" IMO

I'm no expert, but I do think your refresh rates are incorrect, though I doubt that
has anything to do with the glxgears issue. And why don't you search through the
Linux - Games forum if you haven't already. Those guys should be the ones that are
concerned with/know about 3D acceleration. I just do graphics - no games here :}
