Slow CD-ROM Performance

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share this little titbit of info with you all and especially those who are compiling kernels for the first time.

Since my last few re-compiles to try and slim the kernel down i've been suffering with poor cd-rom performance and no amount of tweaking would do the job. So I examined the kernel build menu and noticed I'd built the iso9660 filesystem support into the kernel so on a whim I changed it to be compiled as a module, re-compiled and un-remarked the line in my rc.modules file (slackware). Since then woosh, maximum performance. I've not done any benchmarking but on ripping a cd I've noticed a definite marked improvement. Give it a go.

Simon
