Question sleep/hibernate causes hardware failure

When I leave my computer (2.8Ghz 256mb 2Gb SWAP 80Gb hdd)on all night to download something :P around 2 hours in the hard disk stops, and the system hibernates. this ruins the entire download and causes the system to not wake up.Any suggestions on how to fix this would be welcome, even a script to move the mouse every 15 minuets.
