Slackware printer problems

Man, I've been trying to get my printer working in Slack for a couple days now, and I just can't do it. I've tried CUPSIwhich sucks hard, IMO), something called Turboprint which was easy enough to use, but did absolutely nothing, and APSFilter which seemed to work. I successfully printed the test page and restarted the lpc like the program said to, but when I try to print one of my docs nothing happens. I've searched all over the net to fix this, but can't get it. Can anyone help? SHould I try yet another printer installation program?

Oh yeah APSFIlter also says I can go to /etc/rc.d/init.d and type restart to get the printer working, but according to that directory there is no init.d, and according to the find command there is no init.d file whatsoever on my machine...don't know if this even matters, but I thougtht I'd include it anyways.
