Slackware and AMD Dual Core

Is the default kernel (2.4.x) that comes with Slackware 10.2 compatable with the AMD Dual Core 3800+ X2? All I would have to do is recompile the kernel with SMP support correct? Do I need 2.6.x?

Also, is the sata.i kernel compatable with the nForce4 SATA controller?

i'm not 100% sure.

AMD Opteron was released in 2001-2002 timeframe

AMDAthlon 64 X2 is recognised as 2 seperate Opteron/Athlon64s

so as long as 2.4 was released after 2002 it should work.

sata i can't imagine will have many drivers included in 2.4
