so I insmod b44 for my ethernet card then set up the route (route add default gw 192.168.1.1) and set up my static ip and everything... but it still doesn't work. The LED indicator for the nic light still isn't even on and my router doesn't see the port as being up... any ideas?

Usually the link led has nothing to with a working card under some os. It just tests the physical connection, so I guess your cable might be broken or something like that.

the cable should be working fine as I pulled it out of my roommates comp at the time to test it and he's using it right now
