skystar2 installation problem with 2.6 kernel
 

Hello everybody
here is my poroblem :
i wanna setup a B2C2 ( skystar 2 DVB card ) , the kernel ( 2.6 test5 ) has a support for my cart
i have activated : VideoForLinux ( multimedia menu ) ( yes ) then i activated B2C2 support in Digital video broadcasting service sub menu
until now everything seems to be ok
after compiling ( make bzImage ) this is what i got :
1) the Internet (ppp) access i used became blocked ( seems to be a firewall rule that has blocked all trafic )
the modul for my card isn't loaded !
i tryied to read the doc provided by the kernel source (linux-2.6.0-test5/Documentation/video4linux/bttv)
it says :
Setup your /etc/modules.conf file and let kmod load the modules.

well now i haven't found B2C2 in the CARDLIST file , but i found it in Cards one !
now i realy don' t know what to do to get this gard working with my satellite
internet connexion the kernel seems to support it but don't know how

I selected yes for the b2c2 card in the configuration of kernel 2.6.1 and it did appear and got installed during the system bootup. I also can see it in the pci list in the control center > information > pci. However, I am not able to do anything else with it. I tried installing VDR and dtv but failed. I tried to setup a VPN connetion to EON but also failed. I hope some one can help.

Hey linx win did you get the card working? I have been having lots of problems with mine. I have re-compiled the kernel with the right modules and loaded them and everything but still no /dev/dvb :(

I also have a Skystar 2 card. have tried for months to get it working, on kernel 2.6 never had luck, or even found any driver programs that supports it..though, some for older kernels..... maybe it would be worth considering moving up to a more expensive card that supports Linux? I dont know, but Ive never seen anybody do it, and it must be a big secret if people are doing it.....check out EOL, opensky, and Broadsat forums...have not seen any subscribers report success with Skystar 2 under linux also :confused: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Hey kolchuga don´t dispear I have been trying things for a few days now (Like whole days!) I have downloaded the cvs linuxtv drivers and sort of installed them. So far I have been able to make a channel list using scan and tune a channel with zap. I am just hoping that after i install Mplayer I will be able to see somthing!

I will tell you how I get on. I think its pretty normal its not really well supported, yet as I believe its a pretty new card.

Wow... this this great news..sounds like you have made some progress. I have been trying this on 4 different machines with 2 test cards, on Suse 9.1 Slackware 10, Debian woody, and Mandrake 10. Mandrake 10 is most comfortable for me, cos it is pretty much a straight foreward Linux. Yes your correct, The Technisat skystar 2 card is much newer. Skystar 1 works with linux, But I cant find them here anymore, and I think they dont make them no more, But supposedly, skystar 2 has better functionalty, similar to 350$ high end card...

Did you get these drivers from Linuxtv.org? if so, can you provide the link to the cvs repository of which driver s you took?
Also, I never was able to install with these drivers, always got "NO MAKEFILE TARGET FOUND" could you tell me how you were able to compile? and if so, did you load them into the kernel directory? I tried modifying several lines on my config scripts, but never got it working.

If I can get them loaded, I will try to work with it also on Kernel 2.6 on Mandrake 10, and maybe we can solve this problem together, There seems not many on this forum who have heard of skystar DVB or use it much.. right now im using GPRS for net, and would like to set up system where GPRS is the OUT signal, and EOL or BROADSAT is the IN. this would be ideal system., with 4 PC's networked together. I would be happy to make this work if we can, cos there seem to be a couple other postings on this forum in regard to the question about the technisat skystar 2.

Hey kolchuga there was some interesting stuff on this guys page... although not all relevant (maby more for you than me) http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/computin...leek/ukdvb.php try those cvs commands to download dvb drivers.

I then just did a make (which worked!) and removed the 3 kernel modules I was using dvb-core, skystar2 and stv0299 from the /lib/modules/2.6.7/ etc... and copied the new modules from /build/2.6/ (compiled when you use the make command with the new drivers)

Then I used scan to make a channel list and zap to tune...... but I still haven´t managed to watch tv yet!

I will download these drivers, and compile, and see how far i get, and we can go from there...

Hey kolchuga, just a slight update. I downloaded the src for xine (The latest) but wasn´t able to download the cvs.

I just did ./configure make and make install with the base and gui packages and coppied the channels.conf file to my home .xine directory and I have been able to seen a few channels... although only worked as root and has crashed a couple of times (maby cause I have been runninng it as root)

I now am going to try and figure out how to run it as a user.

Thats great news... I have Xine already loaded from RPM, and it seems to work,

but Im still stuck on this make problem....

I do ./getlinks that all goes then i try make, and there is no make file found, ..even though its right there.

this condition exist in mandrake 10, and suse 9.1

Hey if you have the same problem as him its because you didn´t download the cvs but the version linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1 which doesn´t work for some reason. Download the cvs.

I think you have to do it somthing like the following, but I don´t really know anything about the cvs stuff.
