SiS AGP Problems


Hello. I am having problems with the AGP chip on my system. I recently bought a fairly new motherboard, the ECS L7S7A2. It has a SiS 746 North bridge, and SiS 963 South bridge (I don't know which chip that deals with AGP). I also have a Radeon 9100. After installing Linux, the graphics only worked in vesa mode. So I tried to install the ATi drivers. I then get an error in my XFree86 log file, xf86_ENODEV. After further investigation, I discovered that agpgart wasn't loading.

After manually trying to load the module agpgart, it tells me I have an unsupported chipset, and to try agp_unspported=1 or something to that extent. I try that. The module loads. I then try and start up X, and my system just freezes. I can't kill X, or switch to any other consoles.

That is as far as I have gotten.

What should I do now? I am lost.

I have the same motherboard, and I am running a Radeon 9600 Pro. I have also been attempting to get it to work in XFree86 (version 4.3.0), and have been receiving the same errors. Here is the output when running "startx" as root, with the FireGL driver: (fglrx version 3.2.0)

XFree86 4.3 just began supporting the 962 chipset so I don't know if 963 is supported yet.

Go to XFree86.org and search for SIS chipset support.
