SIS 745 , AC 97 audio driver

hi all,

i've search this wanderful forum but i've found nothing about, so i really appreciate any kind of help or suggestion..

my trouble is that i've bought an ECS motherboard, K7S6A model, and a can't still have my audio working on linux.

The motherboard have a chipset SIS 745 that seems to incorporate the audio device, using the AC97 codec.

I can't still find any driver or trik to get it working.
My distro is a completely updated Slackware 8.0.

As kernel, i can load 2.4.xx or 2.5.xx.
The Sound Support is enabled.

Thanks all Bit7

My motherboard (ASUS A7S333) has the SiS 745 chip and Mandrake 9.1 identifies the on-board sound driver as 'snd-cmipci'. If it's installed, you should see it listed in the output of 'lsmod'. If it's not shown there, and if it is available as a module in your kernel, you can install it with:

modprobe snd-cmipci

You should also see the following included in /etc/modules.conf:

alias sound-slot-0 snd-cmipci
above snd-cmipci snd-pcm-oss

(at least that's what's in mine, so you can take that as a guide - I don't know how different Slackware will be to Mandrake, which has kernel 2.4.21-0.13mdk.)

The other possibility is that your driver is installed, but the sound is turned off in the mixer. Open up your mixer software and look for a setting that has the sound muted. It's a setting in the configs that allows all sound to be turned off without fiddling with the individual sliders.
