SiS 7012 Sound Card on SuSE 9.2 not working

Hie all,

I have a problem and would appreciate your help. I'm a patient Linux newbie.

I recently acquired Linux SuSE 9.2 but i'm failing to get my sound both with ALSA and after configuration with YAST.

I have tried the latest alsa driver, lib and utils but i'm still having the same problem. I get an error when i try to istall the alsa utilities.

Please take not the i had installed SuSE's default alsa and i'm getting an error when i try the latest alsa (utils that is)version.

My machine is a clone, SiS 7012 sound card driver and all other stuff are SiS. the sound card works because WinXP can play use (after searching for the drivers).

I tried some drivers from the SiS website and other sources but i couldn't get the sound card to talk.

Can someone please help me with some detailed instructions on how to configure the sound card?

I would like to make a swicth from WinXP to SuSE but i can't leave my music

Thanks in advance......

Hello

I've also got a 7012, and it used to work fine in SUSE 9.2, down to the fact that distro had a 2.6 kernel with integrated ALSA support.

If I were you, I'd probabaly remove anythng additional you have installed, perhaps even re-installing your kernel via YAST and running YOU as well.

I seem to remember that 9.2 set the volume to zero, so you have to set it using a mixer tool like kmix or alsamixer. If it still doesn't work, perhaps try configuring the card with alsaconf (from console with root permissions).

It could also be that the modules are not being being loaded - try running lsmod as root.
