SIlicon Image - Software Raid 5

I have MB ASUS A8N SLI-DELUXE with Silicon Image controller. I want to make RAID 5 from 3 SATA discs. But this is a hardware-software solution. Yast in SUSE linux show 3 single discs. I needn't software raid. I want to functional system when one discs will be destroy.
I want to install on one disc which is create from 3 single disc as RAID5. I don't know how?
I saw instructions how install driver for silicon image on function LINUX, but before installation..., not. :( In yast I find modul for Silicon Image but this do nothing.
Thanks for your answer.

When doing the install:

Delete all partition.
Create a single linux raid partition on each drive.
Then click the button for RAID/LVM and create 1 large partition utilizing all three drives.
Set the mount point of / on the raid partition.

I did it, but this is only software solution. I want to use also chipset. And when i did this, it write me that loader (grub or lilo) should have problem with boot with clear RAID partion.

Sorry, I'm having trouble reading your post. Are you saying that the kernel doesn't support your chipset? What happens when you boot the raid array? Any errors?

Motherboards with RAID are software ONLY setups. For RAID 5 to be effective when a hard drive fails, you need atleast four hard drives.

If you are using Linux software RAID, you will have to make one partition for each drive. Also you have to specify a type for partition such as RAID (I think FD).

A good howto on RAID go to http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/doc...are-RAID-HOWTO. Its in plain text, but IMHO it is a lot easier to read than HTML which makes it annoying to read documentation.
