SiL 3114 RAID Monitor for Linux (Fedora 8)

Greetings,

I purchased a 2 port Sil3114 SATA controller about two years ago, have used it in Fedora Core 6, Fedora 7 and now 8. I know how to use mdadm to setup a software RAID 0 or 1, but I was planning to test out the actual 'hardware RAID' on the SiL3114 card. My only concern is that Linux will not know when a drive has failed and I will get no warning of a degraded RAID set until I reboot and the SiL BIOS complains.

Is there a utility for Linux that can monitor the RAID status of a hardware RAID on a SiL3114 controller?

If not, what controllers out there support Linux in this fashion?

Thanks. :)

e.g. 3ware controllers run quite nicely with linux. the driver is in the kernel already (module) and they come with a web interface, email notification and so forth. not cheap, but good.

Yeah, I may be able to get my hands on a 12 port 3Ware 3500 series SATA controller, but we'll see. Good to hear that it should work with Linux. :)

Thanks.
