siimage 3112a +seagate STILL sucks...

Hi,

I have a NF7-S 2.0 Mobo installed with a Seagate Barracuda S-ATA HDD on a siimage 3112a controller running SuSE 9.0.
The prob is that I get with the default kernel (2.4.21.99-athlon) no DMA mode working, so performance is very poor ('bout 1 meg/sec, mouse doesn't move smoothly at all..).
Kernel 2.6.5 hangs at booting, and with the latest -mm (at this time -mm4, as uploaded yesterday to kernel.org) I get into KDE, I also can do some work, hdparm -tT /dev/hde reports 54mb/sec, but after copying a lot of files with hundreds of megs, the system still freezes.
After pushing reset (nothing else works!) booting isn't successfull, it crashes before starting X.

I don't know what to do.
There's an old A7V8X lying around here, with Promise Sata onboard, but it has to be repaired. Probably it's easier to use this instead. But I heard repairing can get expensive, and I still want to run this **** board with this HDD.

Thanks for all useful posts.

Do you boot the system with acpi=off apic=off as command line arguments to the kernel? ACPI and APIC are known to cause problems with nforce2-based motherboards (it's a chipset bug). I run my NF7-S rev2 successfully with the options above.

If you are unsure how to pass arguments to the kernel at boot, read man bootparam and edit your bootloader config file.

Thanks, but this wasn't the reason..
I tried this arguments and was able to get into KDE. But I copied a few mpeg files about 300mb, and the sys freezed.
