SiI 3112 Raid not working on Debian w/ kernel 2.6
I recently tried to install Debian Sarge (rc2, netinstall), but I didn't get my Silicon
Image raid set to work. I have two 120G Maxtor Serial ATA hard drives put together to a 240G striped raid set. I have already installed Windows XP, which correctly recognizes the raid set as one big disk, Partition Magic works perfectly, too. But when I tried to install Sarge and got to the partitioning step, the raid set was shown as two separate drives (sda/sdb) and the only possibility was to completely erase the disks :( I'm unable to use linux software raid, because I need my Windows XP partitions. I know that there is a ataraid module to get this working under 2.4.x, but this module doesn't exist under 2.6.x. Is there any possibility to get this to work? Thanks for any answers or hints! dave |
Look here, the dmraid patch will help you it supports Sil 3112A/Medley Raid
http://tienstra4.flatnet.tudelft.nl/~gerte/gen2dmraid/ and here to download the source http://people.redhat.com/~heinzm/sw/dmraid/ For 2.6 kernels, Linux's software-RAID (fakeraid) driver collection is called "dmraid" (Device Mapper RAID). So far (Sept 2004), Promise Fasttrack, Highpoint 37X, Intel ICH5/6, LSI, and SiI 3112A/Medley are supported |
Thanks a lot, scl! I'll try it! :)
