I have a non responsive mp3 player.

I does show up under lsusb as for example:
Bus 002 Device 028: ID 066f:3500 SigmaTel, Inc.
but it does NOT map to a device /dev/sdb1 like it use to.
I have tried to firmware update, and format under winME with the included software on CD, but it just locks up windows.
I have tried holding the PLAY or Menu button for 20 secs while plugging it in to reset it, but that produces no results.
