Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Shutting down

I'm using SuSE 8.0 Pro and can't have SuSE shut down my machine automatically.

On shutdown, I get the following lines:

The system will be halted immediately
(clicking sound)
Runlevel 0 has been reached
Skipped services in runlevel 0: personal-firewall.initial

and then nothing, I have to press the shutdown button.

I tried a lot of things:

1. The BIOS has APCI on, no problem here, since Windows shuts it down ok.
2. I tried changing the kernel from multiple-processor to the default one with no results.
3. I tinkered with the kernel configuration under APM and APCI with no results.
4. If I modprobe apm I get the answer that APM is not installed.

Any suggestions other than the above?

My specs:

Intel P4 motherboard
Pentium 4, 1.7
256 Ram

Take a look at the article below on the SuSE website--perhaps this will answer your question...
