Should I buy a sever!?
Okay I am 15, and I like to tinker, anyhow I want to know I can get a server for 200(a poweredge) and I would like to know should I get it? What's the best use for a server? Would I be able to host my own websites on my home connection (or is comcast to gay to do that :P ?) Thx guys quick feedback is nice, as always
i have a normal connection 512/128 with a normal isp and dynamic ip...
--> samhob.com
for dynamic ip i use dns2go it gives a dns for dynamic ip's ... you need to buy a domain name , but its ok : 12 euros
You can setup a server, but you need to ask your ISP first. Your ISP probably tell you have to upgrade to a business package. You need to gauge the server bandwidth, so that it does not take a lot of upload bandwidth. The dynamic register will only work if you update the information. You have to run a script to found out the new IP every hour and send the information from the script to your register. There are free dynamic registers like dyndns.org and they have script or programs to update the information.
You can use any processor like a 80386 or as small as a microcontoller for a basic web server. It depends what you are going to do to your web server.
