Shimian Monitor and blank screen on boot

I am (trying to) running the Slackware 14 default 64 bit kernel. I am running a Shimian monitor with a GIGABYTE GV-R775OC-2GI Radeon HD 7750 using the default driver in the Linux Kernel. I am very happy with this - when my system boots.

Every time I boot, I get text on the screen as the kernel loads. At some point, the screen goes blank. About 10% of the time, 30 seconds later the screen loads X and goes to the graphical login. 90% of the time, the screen stays blank and I have to hard reboot and try again. I have left the system for over an hour like this without observing changes. I do not believe I am doing anything differently when it boots vs when it doesn't.

Since I can easily lose 30 minutes when I reboot, I have gotten frustrated very quickly trying to either make configuration changes to either fix the problem or enable some sort of logging. I have not successfully gotten to a terminal without loading 'X'.

Any ideas?

Try to add this kernel option to the
Code:

append=" … "
line in your /etc/lilo.conf:
Code:

video=1024x768@60
Don't forget to run lilo afterwards.
The error description you provide points to problems with kernel mode setting, it seems that the driver sometimes has problems to determine the correct resolution and/or refresh rate for your monitor. The option mentioned above will instruct the driver to use a resolution of 1024x768 with a refresh rate of 60Hz, a standard resolution any modern display should work with. Use the native resolution of your display instead of those settings, if you wish.
