Several Printers to No Printers Working -- Why?

On LinuxMint 21, I have a laptop that used to print to multiple printers. Now *all* printers won't print.
Can see the print jobs in the queues as Processing, Pending, or Held. Nothing ever prints.
I even took down my firewall and tried to re-install using hplip at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... g/gethplip
Nothing works though I can ping at least one of the HP Printers (HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710--Andy-and-Rick).

Thanks in advance for your help.

It makes for much easier reading if you post output within CODE tags (refer to the '#' button in the advanced forum editor). Anyway, you have 12 printer devices listed...
Code:

Some of the entries, configured using the HPLIP backend, are for the same printer. I would remove the unnecessary additional entries. I guess as a result of multiple manual configuration attempts?

Others may be auto-discovered? (Such as that reported by the CUPS dnssd:// backend).

You should examine the error_log (/var/log/cups/error_log) for more information when print jobs fail. You can increase the logging verbosity with
Code:
sudo cupsctl --debug-logging
More info...
https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/How...PS#root-access
Further debugging steps...
https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSDebugging

The others are 'advertised' by a print server in your network?

You could also go to the CUPS interface (http://localhost:631) and see what it tells you about the status of the printers.

Will run cupsctl. But this seem to explain why *all* printers suddenly doesn't work, does it?
The reason I have multiple entries is because I tried re-installing a bunch of printers.

Other than going to that address, what should I do?

Given the 'mess' of configurations, I'd be inclined to start by removing the HP printer configurations. Then use 'hp-setup' to configure CUPS for the "HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710" again. In particular, I would expect the HPLIP configured printer URI to look like this: "hp:/net/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710?ip=10.2.10.135"

You should then test it by sending a print job with CUPS debug logging enabled as explained already. If the print job fails to print, examine the CUPS error log for errors. For example
Code:
sudo egrep -iA3 "filter|error" /var/log/cups/error
That might tell us more about what is failing here.

With respect to the following CUPS messages...
Code:
printer HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710_8503D0 disabled since Fri 17 Feb 2023 07:52:53 PM CST -
No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer "HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710_8503D0", is cups-browsed running?
printer KONICAMINOLTA_bizhub_C360i_44_15_7E disabled since Fri 17 Feb 2023 07:24:00 PM CST -
No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer "KONICAMINOLTA_bizhub_C360i_44_15_7E", is cups-browsed running?
...did you check if cups-browsed was running? I assume that you want to discover other printers on your network, including those offered by some print server in your workplace? Only you as the administrator can know the answer to this. Are these printers that you want to be able to print to as well?

Anyway, you can check it with
Code:
sudo systemctl status cups-browsed
and decide if you want it active or not.

Just tried another print job. At the link is the a text output of "sudo cupsctl --debug-logging" that I found in /var/log/cups/error_log.
(If someone can just post the text output that would be great. The site kept rejecting my attempt.)

https://file.io/FySQz99KnHnU

Any tips or ideas?

For lengthy output, best to post to https://pastebin.com/ or similar, and post the link to it here. Don't make potential helpers download such output.

Anyway, I trawled through for filter-related problems and noticed this...
Code:
D [22/Feb/2023:21:40:41 -0600] [Job 114] prnt/backend/hp.c 824: ERROR: open device failed stat=12: hp:/net/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710?ip=10.2.10.135
D [22/Feb/2023:21:40:41 -0600] [Job 114] PID 22083 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups) did not catch or ignore signal 13.
D [22/Feb/2023:21:40:41 -0600] [Job 114] PID 22084 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp) stopped with status 1.
I'm not sure what the underlying cause would be here. You could check that all dependencies are satisfied, and running 'hp-doctor' might be a good first step. You could also try connecting this printer via USB (if possible), and check whether you can configure and print successfully in that situation.

HPLIP support:
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-i...roubleshooting
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-i...printing/about

With respect to other print job attempts contained in that output (such as one to HP-OfficeJet-Pro-8710-BROKEN), CUPS processed the job according to the filter chain shown below and it appears to have completed successfully from CUPS POV, but to have failed silently from the printer POV, because it is using the wrong driver as per the PPD chosen. This typically results in the data just being ignored.
Code:
[22/Feb/2023:21:37:03 -0600] [Job 110] 5 filters for job:
D [22/Feb/2023:21:37:03 -0600] [Job 110] bannertopdf (application/vnd.cups-pdf-banner to application/pdf, cost 32)
D [22/Feb/2023:21:37:03 -0600] [Job 110] pdftopdf (application/pdf to application/vnd.cups-pdf, cost 66)
D [22/Feb/2023:21:37:03 -0600] [Job 110] gstoraster (application/vnd.cups-pdf to image/pwg-raster, cost 99)
D [22/Feb/2023:21:37:03 -0600] [Job 110] - (image/pwg-raster to printer/HP-OfficeJet-Pro-8710-BROKEN/image/pwg-raster, cost 10)
D [22/Feb/2023:21:37:03 -0600] [Job 110] - (printer/HP-OfficeJet-Pro-8710-BROKEN/image/pwg-raster to printer/HP-OfficeJet-Pro-8710-BROKEN, cost 0)
Best to remove such incorrect configurations.
