Setting up the HP1000 printer
Hi
okay..so this is my problem..I have been using RH8 for a year now...never was able to get my printer running. Recently I switched to RH9 and again I did not succeed at making it work. Plus RH9 was slow for some reason...anyway I switched again to Mandrake 9.1 and I like it! it told me what files dependended on what when I was installing thus I did not have any dependency problems ..yet...BUT I still cant get my printer to work!
Its an HP1000 Laserjet. I ran through the Mandrake Control Center setup and it said everything was done properly except that I had to extract a file off the HP setup executable and I did that. Then it said put it in /etc/printer and i did that..then it said at system bootup the script will load itself automatical and I saw an entry for it in the log.
When I print nothing happens but when i check the queue I do find my print job over there but nothing comes out.
I checked out linuxprinting.org and the guide said I have to write that image file into /dev/usb/lp0
Oh yeah..this printer is an USB printer.
So...any ideas how I can get this to work...like I was really really ready to divorce Windows...but that wont happen if I can't print.
One more thing..accidently I clicked on subscribe to this thread...how do I unsubscribe? and what did I actually subscribe for? (other people's Linux problems??..I hope not)
