Setting up DVD-/+RW

I just got a dvd-/+rw (Pioneer 106D) and want some help setting it up.

I took out my cd-rom and put in the dvd-/+rw without changing anything. I'm able to mount cd's and dvd's fine and see thier files.

Now how do I get the burning functions working?

System info:

Gentoo 2.4.22_pre2-gss kernel
Athlon Barton 2500+@2000Mhz

Lightbulb Re: Setting up DVD-/+RW

A new version of xcdroast -0.98-alpha14- is available and is useful for burning DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW. xcdroast

The rpm's for SuSE 8.2 is available on Packman
This new version can use cdrecord-Prodvd and therefore burn DVD-+R/RW.

Download the binary ProDVD and the key found in the file there CDR_SECURITY
and for the configuration you can find information at xcdroast-site or local when you've installed xcdroast.
(it should be accessible under /usr/share/doc/packages/xcdroast/doc/ )

I've just burned a data DVD-R (1x speed), it tokes about 35 minutes for 4.2 Gb, real speed -+2x

For not fail the burn (buffer under run) i've make first a master image and then wrote the DVD, perhaps it should work on the fly but my experence in burning is so worst with CD's without writing an image that i've deed it also with creating an image and then burn the DVD (It was my first DVD burning).

System info:
-------------------------------------------
SuSE 8.2 kernel 2.4.20-4GB-athlon
Athlon XP 3000+@2166Mhz (BogoMIPS = 4325,37)
512MB PC3200
SONY DRU-500A (DVD-R/RW+R/RW)
