ServeRaid 6M ppoor performance

Does anybody has any experience in poor performance with IBM's raid cards?
We have this problem with an eServer 255.
card: ServeRaid 6M
HDDs: 6*U320 137GB 10K HDD in RAID 5

We have installed Arcserve 9 on it.
Ultrium 1 drive attached to integrated scsi controller.
backup speed: 600-700 MB/min

which is about 10MB/s

That is terrible!

Any help is welcome!!!

Looking at the Ultrium site
Ultrium 1 provides for data transfer rates of 15-30 MB/ second (2:1 compression) for the first generation of the 8-channel version.
Not too sure how to read that one, but if you're seeing 10MB of compressed data then I'd say you're running about normal speed. I wouldn't place any blame on the RAID controller as you will be limited by the write speed of the backup device.
