server selection - i845-chipset mobos?

Hi all,

this is a server I have my eyes on atm for a company being set up by my brother:
http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=25564

It strikes me as being good value and quite a high performer, but I thought I should get a couple of other opinions first.

I have gone for the 1u form factor beacuse I'd like to be able to move into a colocation centre when the budget allows. Until then, and as traffic will be nil in the early days, I'm happy to keep a small rack of boxen in a 'dedicated' room on the office premesis.

So what do you think of this unit? I anticipate running Slackware 8.1/9. Has anyone had any experiences with linux on 845-chipset motherboards? I envisage buying 2 of these units -

- a web applications server w/ apache, php
- a MySQL database server

thanks,
christo

Twin ethernet is sweet, and if I were you I'd make the budget leap/stretch/wish for the SCSI option - you'll be happy you got it in the long run. The i845 is nice but serverworks is nicer . The hot-swappable SCSI is nice but it looks like you're limited to two bays for that. Also - if you won't be using RAID then hot-swap is a bit much. You'd be better off getting three SCSI drives and laying out the file system to use all three drives effectively.

Just my 2 cents.
